Overview
EN ISO 10547:2009 - "Polyester fibre ropes - Double braid construction" is a CEN-adopted ISO standard that specifies construction, designation, physical properties and marking rules for polyester double-braided ropes and higher‑strength (hs) double-braided ropes. It provides manufacturers, specifiers and users with uniform requirements for double braid ropes made from polyester, including minimum breaking forces and linear densities for a wide range of reference sizes.

- Rope is a true double braid: an inner hollow braid (core) manufactured separately with an outer braid (cover) braided over it.
- Either the core or the cover shall not exceed 55% of the rope’s total weight.

- Higher‑strength ropes are designated with “(hs)” (example: Fibre rope ISO 10547 - 20 - PES (hs)).
- Strand and braid requirements
- Minimum outer-braid strands: 16 for reference numbers 6–16, 24 for >16.
- Strand interchange (overlap of interrupted strands) is permitted under controlled rules (e.g., one interchange allowed in core and one in cover for lengths ≤200 m; longer lengths may allow additional interchanges). Overlap length is typically 8× rope size number but not less than 600 mm (for certain sizes); interchanges must be ≥12 m apart and recorded for inspection.
- Physical properties and performance
- Linear density (ktex) and minimum breaking force (kN) are defined in tabular form for reference numbers from 6 up to 240. Values apply to new, dry and wet ropes.
- Breaking-force testing is referenced to ISO 2307 and results are influenced by terminations, knots, bends, testing rate and prior conditioning.
