Overview
ISO 9725:2017 - Nickel and nickel alloy forgings specifies requirements for nickel and nickel‑alloy forgings intended for general purposes. The standard defines alloy identification rules, required purchaser information, composition limits, mechanical properties, heat‑treatment conditions and factory and purchaser responsibilities for testing, sampling, marking and certification. It is the second edition (2017) and replaces the 1992 edition with technical revisions.

- Mechanical properties and testing: Tensile, creep and stress‑rupture properties are specified (Table 2 and Table 4). Tensile tests follow ISO 6892‑1/6892‑2; creep/stress‑rupture follow ISO 204. One mechanical test per lot is typical; tensile specimens should not exceed 15 mm diameter.
- Sampling options: Separate test samples, integral extensions, or specimens machined from forgings are permitted; sampling location is usually at supplier’s option unless otherwise specified.
- Quality acceptance and retest rules: Hardness may be used as an alternate acceptance criterion if agreed. Retest procedures are defined when initial tests fail. Rounding rules for reporting results are specified.
- Marking, inspection and conformity: Marking and shipping‑container information, purchaser/third‑party inspection arrangements, and declaration of conformity (including heat‑treatment and test results) are covered.
