Abstract

This document specifies graphical symbols for diagrams related to industrial components, products and processing and constitutes a symbol library for use in diagrams. It is intended to be used together with ISO 14617-1 (general rules and presentation) and includes application guidance in a normative annex. The standard excludes certain domains (for example fluid power, measurement/control function symbols and electrotechnical objects) which are covered by other standards/databases.

Scope

ISO 14617-2:2025 provides the graphical symbols of general application forming a symbol library (Tables 1–149) for building complete symbols used in technical diagrams for industrial components and processing. It gives the symbols themselves and application rules (normative Annex A) while leaving general preparation and presentation rules to ISO 14617-1. It does not apply to fluid-power symbols (see ISO 1219-1), electrotechnical object symbols (see the IEC 60617 database) or to measurement and control function symbols.
