Full title and description

ISO 1833-2:2020 — Textiles — Quantitative chemical analysis — Part 2: Ternary fibre mixtures. This part of the ISO 1833 series specifies methods for the quantitative chemical analysis of three-component fibre mixtures and gives guidance for applying the series' methods to characteristic ternary cases.

Abstract

This document specifies methods of quantitative analysis for various ternary mixtures of fibres. It describes which parts of the ISO 1833 series apply to typical ternary combinations and indicates that the procedures can be used for mixtures with more than three components when the combined test methods reduce the problem to simpler cases. Table B.1 in the standard illustrates typical ternary mixtures and applicable parts.

General information

  • Status: Published (current edition).
  • Publication date: June 2020 (ISO publication: 2020-06).
  • Publisher: International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
  • ICS / categories: 59.060.01 (Textile fibres in general).
  • Edition / version: Edition 2 (2020).
  • Number of pages: ISO bibliographic entry lists 17 pages for the international text; national/adopted versions (EN/BS/DIN etc.) commonly include additional national front matter and show larger page counts (e.g., 24 pages in some EN copies).

Key bibliographic and lifecycle metadata are recorded by ISO; national adopters publish localized (EN/DE/FR) versions that may differ in pagination.

Scope

Specifies methods of quantitative chemical analysis applicable to ternary fibre mixtures and to mixtures with more than three components when the selected combination of test methods reduces to simple ternary cases. The scope of each applicable method is indicated by the relevant part(s) of ISO 1833; the standard is intended for fibres in any usual textile form unless otherwise stated in a particular part. Table B.1 illustrates typical ternary combinations and the parts of ISO 1833 applicable to them.

Key topics and requirements

  • Definition of ternary fibre mixtures and applicability conditions for combining methods from different ISO 1833 parts.
  • Selection guidance for which part(s) of ISO 1833 to apply to a given ternary mixture.
  • Procedural notes on sample preparation, separation and quantitative determination using the chemical/gravimetric techniques defined in the series.
  • Illustrative table (Table B.1) of typical ternary mixtures mapped to the corresponding ISO 1833 parts.
  • Normative and informative annexes (as applicable) providing worked examples and cross-references to other parts of ISO 1833.

Typical use and users

Used by textile test laboratories, material and product manufacturers, quality assurance personnel, standards bodies and regulatory authorities for determination of fibre composition in fabrics, yarns and other textile forms where three-component mixtures occur or where multi-component mixtures can be resolved by combining methods from the ISO 1833 series.

Related standards

Part of the ISO 1833 series (Quantitative chemical analysis of textiles). Key related parts include ISO 1833-1 (general principles of testing) and the other part-specific methods in the series that define procedures for particular binary and multi-component combinations. ISO 1833-2 (2006) was the earlier edition that has been superseded by this 2020 edition.

FAQ

Q: What is this standard?

A: ISO 1833-2:2020 is Part 2 of the ISO 1833 series, covering methods and guidance for the quantitative chemical analysis of ternary (three-component) fibre mixtures in textiles.

Q: What does it cover?

A: It specifies which methods from the ISO 1833 series apply to typical ternary fibre combinations, how to combine methods when appropriate, and provides illustrative tables and notes to guide the quantitative determination of fibre fractions.

Q: Who typically uses it?

A: Textile testing laboratories, manufacturers, quality control teams, certification bodies and regulators who need reliable, standardized procedures to determine the proportion of fibres in multi-component textile products.

Q: Is it current or superseded?

A: The 2020 edition (Edition 2) is the current ISO edition of Part 2; it supersedes ISO 1833-2:2006 (the earlier edition). National/adopted versions (EN/BS/DIN/etc.) exist and may include national front matter; users should check their national standards body for the applicable adopted text.

Q: Is it part of a series?

A: Yes — ISO 1833 is a multi-part series covering quantitative chemical analysis of textile fibres; Part 1 covers general principles and the other parts specify methods for particular fibre combinations. ISO/TC 38 is the responsible technical committee.

Q: What are the key keywords?

A: Ternary fibre mixtures, quantitative chemical analysis, ISO 1833, textile testing, fibre composition, gravimetric methods, sample separation, ISO/TC 38.
