Full title and description
St ISO 18750-2025 — Intelligent transport systems — Local dynamic map. This International Standard defines the concept, functionality and interfacing requirements for a Local Dynamic Map (LDM) used within Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to store, manage and distribute location‑ and time‑referenced dynamic map information for use by ITS applications and services.
Abstract
This document describes the functionality of a Local Dynamic Map (LDM) in the context of the bounded secured managed domain (BSMD). It specifies general characteristics of LDM Data Objects (LDM‑DOs) that can be stored in an LDM (for example: vehicles, road works, slow traffic sections, special weather conditions), and defines service access point functions for ITS stations (ITS‑S) to securely add, update, delete and read data, subscribe for notifications, and perform management operations (registration, de‑registration, subscription management and revocation). The standard also addresses procedures for maintaining content integrity and mechanisms for supporting multiple LDM instances within a single ITS station unit.

Scope
ISO 18750:2025 specifies the functional and interface requirements for Local Dynamic Maps used by ITS applications. It covers the types and minimal attributes of LDM Data Objects (location‑ and time‑referenced content), the service access points an ITS station must provide to access an LDM, secure access and notification mechanisms, management operations for ITS‑S application processes, and operational procedures to preserve content consistency and integrity. It is intended to support interoperable, secure sharing of dynamic spatial data within the BSMD and between cooperating ITS components.
Key topics and requirements
- Definition and functional description of a Local Dynamic Map (LDM) and its role in the BSMD.
- Specification of LDM Data Objects (LDM‑DOs): required attributes (at minimum location and time references) and example object types (vehicles, road works, slow traffic sections, adverse weather sections).
- Service access point functions for ITS stations (ITS‑S) to perform secure add, update and delete operations on LDM content.
- Secure read/query interfaces and subscription/notification mechanisms for ITS applications.
- Management operations: secure registration, de‑registration, revocation of application processes, and subscription management.
- Procedures and mechanisms to maintain data store content, integrity and consistency, including approaches for synchronizing multiple LDM instances within a single ITS station.
- Security and privacy considerations implied by access controls, subscriptions and management of application identities within the BSMD context.
Typical use and users
Typical users and implementers include vehicle OEMs and Tier‑1 suppliers, ITS application developers, map and telematics data providers, roadside and traffic‑management equipment vendors, urban mobility platform operators, and transport authorities. Typical uses include cooperative safety services, hazard and event dissemination, cooperative navigation, traffic management, and any ITS function that requires timely, location‑referenced dynamic map content.
Related standards
ISO 18750:2025 is part of the ITS family of standards maintained by ISO/TC 204 and is used alongside ITS architecture and communication standards such as ISO 21217 (ITS station and communication architecture), earlier ISO/TS and ISO/TR documents on Local Dynamic Maps, and data/message specifications commonly used in ITS (for example DATEX II, ETSI CAM and DENM). It supersedes the 2018 edition of ISO 18750.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: ISO 18750:2025 is an international standard that defines the Local Dynamic Map (LDM) concept, the structure of LDM data objects and the secure interfaces and management functions ITS stations must provide to create, read, update, delete and subscribe to dynamic map content.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers functional requirements for LDMs, characteristics of LDM Data Objects (minimum attributes and example types), service access point definitions for secure data operations and notifications, management operations for ITS application processes, and procedures to maintain data integrity and support multiple LDMs in a single ITS station.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, ITS application and platform developers, map and data providers, traffic management centres, roadside equipment vendors and transport authorities use this standard to ensure interoperable exchange and management of dynamic spatial traffic information.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: ISO 18750:2025 is current (published 4 April 2025) and supersedes the previous edition ISO 18750:2018.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: Yes. It forms part of the broader set of ITS standards under ISO/TC 204 and is intended to be used in conjunction with related ITS architecture and communication standards (for example ISO 21217 and other ITS technical reports and specs addressing LDM design, messaging and data exchange).
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Local Dynamic Map (LDM), ITS, LDM Data Object, georeferenced, time‑referenced, BSMD, ITS‑S, secure access, notifications, traffic events.
