BS 4695 discusses a method for determining of melting point of petroleum wax (cooling curve). Petroleum wax is a soft colourless solid derived from petroleum, coal or oil shale that consists of a mixture of hydrocarbon molecules containing between twenty and forty carbon atoms. BS 4695 specifies a method for the determination of the melting point (cooling curve) of petroleum wax. It is unsuitable for waxes of the petrolatum group, the microcrystalline waxes, or blends of such waxes with paraffin wax or scale wax.
