What is BS 5266-10:2008? BS 5266-10 gives best-practice recommendations on all the factors that should be taken into account when designing and providing emergency lighting systems, including escape and standby lighting. By following the specifications set out within in this standard, the user will be able to correctly install emergency lighting – helping to reduce risk in buildings if the normal lighting supply fails. BS 5266-10 also offers advice on appropriate emergency lighting levels, initiation times and working planes. How does it work? BS 5266-10 looks at the need for emergency lighting, as well as the types of lighting systems that should be considered for specific locations. The standard also focuses on portable emergency luminaires. Other topics include testing, maintenance and recordkeeping, and the right procedures to limit the risks of annual full duration testing.
