BS 5581 is a British standard that applies to control switches according to IEC Standard 337-1 , with two definite positions (such as push-buttons, limit-switches, and similar devices), irrespective of their construction, having terminal marking in accordance with the corresponding marking of contactor relays designated by the distinctive letter E . The use of BS 5581 is recommended where terminal marking is a requirement of the relevant standard for control switches or is the usual practice.
