BS IEC 61196 is a series on coaxial communication cables. Coaxial communication cable consists of an inner conductor surrounded by a concentric conducting shield , with the two separated by a dielectric ( insulating material); many coaxial cables also have a protective outer sheath or jacket. BS IEC 61196-1-116 applies to coaxial communications cables. It specifies test methods for determining the impedance of coaxial communications cables with time domain reflectometry (TDR).
