Overview
EN ISO 22391-5:2009/A1:2020 is Amendment 1 to Part 5 of the ISO 22391 series covering plastics piping systems for hot and cold water installations using Polyethylene of Raised Temperature resistance (PE-RT). This amendment (corrected version 2021-03) updates normative references, test methods and specific test parameters used to demonstrate the fitness for purpose of PE-RT piping systems.

Thermal cycling (Table 7) - test parameters revised for application classes 1, 2, 4 and 5:
- Maximum design temperatures (Tmax): Class 1: 80 °C, Class 2: 80 °C, Class 4: 70 °C, Class 5: 90 °C
- Highest/lowest test temperatures: 90/20 °C, 90/20 °C, 80/20 °C, 95/20 °C respectively
- Number of cycles: d ≤ 160 mm: 5 000 cycles; d > 160 mm: 500 cycles
- Cycle durations (footnotes): short cycle = 15 min high / 15 min low (30 min total); long cycle = 150 min high / 150 min low (300 min total)
- Test assemblies: minimum pipe connectors/connection counts per ISO 19893; free pipe length between joints not less than 150 mm.

Pressure cycling (Table 8) - requirements updated:
- Test method: ISO 19892 at 23 °C
- Number of test pieces: 3
- Frequency: d ≤ 160 mm: (30 ± 5) cycles/min; d > 160 mm: (15 ± 3) cycles/min
- Number of cycles: d ≤ 160 mm: 10 000; d > 160 mm: 5 000
- Test pressure limits for design pressures: for 4 bar → upper 6.0 / lower 0.5 bar; 6 bar → 9.0 / 0.5; 8 bar → 12.0 / 0.5; 10 bar → 15.0 / 0.5.
