This document reviews methods for measuring the thickness of metallic and other inorganic coatings on both metallic and non-metallic substrates (see Tables 1, A.1 and A.2). It is limited to tests already specified, or to be specified, in International Standards and excludes certain tests that are used for special applications.

EN ISO 3882:2024 - titled "Metallic and other inorganic coatings - Review of methods of measurement of thickness (ISO 3882:2024)" - is a CEN-adopted review standard that summarizes and classifies the internationally standardized methods for measuring the thickness of metallic and other inorganic coatings on both metallic and non‑metallic substrates. This fourth edition (2024) replaces the 2003 edition and collates methods already specified (or to be specified) in International Standards, indicating whether they are non‑destructive or destructive, their working principles, applicability and basic limitations.
