Overview
EN ISO 4136:2022 - “Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials - Transverse tensile test (ISO 4136:2022)” is a CEN-adopted International Standard that specifies specimen sizes and the procedure for carrying out transverse tensile tests on welded butt joints. The test determines the tensile strength of the joint and the location of fracture in metallic materials in any product form. This fourth edition (2022) replaces EN ISO 4136:2012 and aligns with ISO testing practice and European implementation requirements.

- Surface preparation and exact specimen dimensions follow the standard’s figures and Table 1 symbols (e.g., b, L, S, t).

- Record tensile strength, fracture location, and examine fracture surfaces.
- Include specimen details, heat treatment/ageing history (if any), testing temperature, and methods used in the test report.
