Overview
EN ISO 505:2025 / ISO 505:2025 specifies a standardized laboratory method to measure the tear propagation resistance of textile conveyor belts. Adopted by CEN as EN ISO 505:2025 (approved 26 March 2025, to be implemented by October 2025), this fifth edition updates the procedure used to quantify the force required to propagate an initial longitudinal tear in either full-thickness belts or the carcass only. It supersedes EN ISO 505:2017 and is identical in text to ISO 505:2025.

- Condition in accordance with ISO 18573 using atmosphere D or E (or B or C for light belts / carcass samples). In disputes, conditioning = 72 h.
- Procedure:
- Mount cut ends in the jaws with inner cut edges centered in each jaw.
- Continue test until tear extends at least 100 mm while recording force.
- Results:
- Multi-peak tear resistance traces are recorded and analyzed (ISO 6133 referenced for analysis).
