Overview
EN ISO 5182:2016 (ISO 5182:2016) specifies the required characteristics of materials used for resistance welding electrodes and ancillary equipment - components that carry welding current and transmit force to the workpiece. Adopted by CEN and published as a European Standard, it supersedes EN ISO 5182:2009 and is the international reference for electrode material classification, properties and test methods.

- Material properties

- Softening temperature: defined as the maximum temperature which, if maintained for 2 hours, reduces hardness by no more than 15% from the “as received” value. A formal standard test method is pending; currently agreed between supplier and purchaser when required.

- Materials are designated by group, type and material number (for example: ISO 5182:2016 – A 2/1 for CuCr1).

- Alloys containing beryllium require precautions (e.g., during dry grinding or welding) to avoid inhalation of hazardous dust or fumes.
