Overview
EN ISO 6410-2:1996 (ISO 6410-2:1993) defines how screw thread inserts are represented on technical drawings. The standard specifies methods for the detailed (true-shape), conventional and simplified representation, plus rules for designation and dimensioning of inserts in mechanical engineering drawings. Its purpose is to ensure consistent, unambiguous communication between designers, manufacturers and users of threaded parts and fasteners.

- Detailed representation (true shape): shows the actual geometry and is intended for illustrations and catalogues; it should be avoided on technical drawings where possible.

- If no standard exists, use the thread designation d × P (nominal diameter × pitch) followed by the letters INS (e.g., M30×1.5 INS).
- When a general indication suffices (e.g., "insert placed"), use the abbreviation INS.
- Additional information (manufacturer, catalogue number) may be added; designation can be shown with a leader line or as a dimension.

- Follow general drawing presentation rules (ISO 128) and the general conventions in ISO 6410-1.
