Overview
EN ISO 8394-2:2017 - Buildings and civil engineering works - Determination of extrudability for sealant - Part 2: Using standardized apparatus - specifies a laboratory method to determine the extrudability of sealants independently of the package in which they are supplied. Endorsed by CEN (as EN ISO 8394-2:2017), the standard defines test conditions, apparatus, conditioning and test procedures to produce comparable extrusion-rate results for single- and multi-component sealants.
Key topics and technical requirements
Applications and users
- Who uses it: sealant manufacturers, independent testing laboratories, quality control teams, construction specifiers, certification bodies, and procurement specialists.
- Practical uses:
- Compare pumpability and workability of sealant formulations independently of cartridge or sausage packaging.
- Support product development (rheology adjustments) and quality control sampling.
- Provide objective data for technical datasheets, performance claims, and compliance in building and civil engineering projects.
Related standards
- ISO 6927 (Sealants - Vocabulary) is normative and referenced for terms/definitions.
- EN ISO 8394 series - Part 2 is one part of this series addressing extrudability; users should consult other parts for complementary test methods.
