Overview
ISO 12856-1:2022 specifies the material characteristics required for polymeric composite and reinforced polymeric composite materials used to manufacture railway sleepers, bearers and transoms. Applicable to all track types (heavy and urban rail), with or without ballast, this standard defines how materials should resist chemical, environmental and biological influences and identifies the mechanical and thermal properties relevant to safe, long-term track performance. ISO 12856-1 is the first part of the ISO 12856 series (see Related Standards).
