Overview
ISO 13105-1:2023 - "Building construction machinery and equipment - Machinery for concrete surface floating and finishing - Part 1: Commercial specifications" defines the commercial data and product information that manufacturers and suppliers must present for machines commonly called power trowels. This second edition (2023) covers both pedestrian-controlled and ride-on power trowels used for concrete surface floating and finishing. It explicitly excludes strike-off machines (screeds). The document complements ISO 13105-2, which covers safety requirements and verification.
Key topics
The standard specifies the content of commercial specifications and the essential technical information to be published for each model. Key topics include:
- General product identification
- model, type, manufacturer, serial number
- Prime mover details
- internal combustion engine (type, model, operating speed, certified net power, fuel type and tank capacity)
- electric motor (model, rated power/current, voltage/frequency, speeds)
- pneumatic/hydraulic motor (model, rated power/displacement, pressure, flow)
- Rotor and blade information
- number of blades, pitch (fixed or adjustable), rotor diameter (swept circle), rotor speed range
- Mass and weight data
- operating mass (definition including operator where applicable) and shipping/nominal mass
- Pedestrian-controlled machine details
- handle type and height, guard ring diameter, overall length (see Annex A)
- Ride-on machine details
- swept path width, unswept distance between rotors, retardant tank capacity, battery capacity, transmission and steering types, overall dimensions, operator seat height
- Informative diagrams
- Annex A provides dimensional diagrams for operating mode (pedestrian and ride-on layouts)
Applications
ISO 13105-1:2023 is primarily used to standardize commercial product information for concrete finishing equipment. Typical users include:
- Manufacturers and OEMs creating datasheets and product catalogs for power trowels
- Procurement teams and specifiers writing tender documents and technical purchase specifications
- Equipment dealers and rental companies listing technical attributes clearly for customers
- Contractors and concrete finishers comparing machine capabilities (rotor size, blade pitch, operating mass)
- Standards committees and testing laboratories coordinating with ISO 13105-2 (safety) and related references
