Overview - ISO 14453:2014 (Pulps - Determination of acetone-soluble matter)
ISO 14453:2014 specifies a laboratory method to determine the acetone-soluble matter in pulp. Applicable to all pulp types, the standard measures wood extractives (often called resin) - for example fatty acids, resin acids, fatty alcohols, sterols, glycerides and waxes - that dissolve in acetone. The practical lower limit is about 0.05% (can be reduced by increasing sample mass). The method uses either classical Soxhlet extraction (Option A) or automated Soxtec-type extraction (Option B).
