Overview
ISO 15098:2024 - "Dentistry - Dental tweezers" is the international standard that specifies design requirements and test methods for metallic dental tweezers of Meriam and College types. Published in 2024 (second edition), the standard covers classification, required dimensions and tolerances, materials, hardness, surface finish, closing/opening forces, resistance to reprocessing, and measurement/test methods. It expressly excludes anatomical tweezers and surgical tweezers.

- All surfaces must be free of defects and residues; any satin finish must be uniform and smooth.
- Closing/opening forces
- Closing/opening forces must be within ±20% of the manufacturer’s stated value. Tip opening shall be 14 mm to 18 mm.
- Resistance to reprocessing
- After sterilization/reprocessing tests, tweezers must show no deterioration in hardness, surface finish or force characteristics and no signs of corrosion.
- Measurement and testing
- Visual inspection, dimensional measurement accuracy (device accurate to 1/10 of tolerance), and mechanical force testing procedures (e.g., using a universal testing machine with 0.1 N accuracy). Force testing requires at least three samples and the median value recorded.
