Overview
ISO 1523:2002 specifies a laboratory test method for the determination of the flash point of paints, varnishes, paint binders, solvents, petroleum and related products using a closed cup equilibrium method. The standard defines the flash point as the lowest temperature (corrected to 101.3 kPa) at which application of an ignition source causes vapour to ignite and the flame to propagate across the liquid surface. The method is applicable over a practical temperature range of approximately –30 °C to 110 °C depending on the closed-cup apparatus used.
