Overview

ISO 16610-21:2011 - "Geometrical product specifications (GPS) - Filtration - Part 21: Linear profile filters: Gaussian filters" defines the metrological characteristics of the Gaussian filter used for profile filtration in surface metrology. The standard explains how to separate a measured surface profile into long-wave (form/waviness) and short-wave (roughness) components by using a Gaussian weighting function with a cut-off wavelength that transmits 50% amplitude at the cut-off.
