ISO 16712:2005 specifies a method for the determination of acute toxicity to amphipods exposed over a period of 10 d to samples of contaminated marine or estuarine sediment, to chemical, industrial or municipal sludge or other solid wastes that may combine with marine or estuarine sediments, or to chemicals or preparations spiked into clean sediment.

Overview

ISO 16712:2005 - Water quality: Determination of acute toxicity of marine or estuarine sediment to amphipods specifies a standardized acute sediment bioassay. The method exposes sediment-dwelling amphipods to contaminated marine or estuarine sediment (or sediment spiked with chemicals/sludges) for 10 days, with the biological endpoint recorded as percent mortality at day 10. The test is designed for reliable assessment of sediment toxicity in coastal and estuarine environments.
