Overview
ISO 18878:2013 - Mobile elevating work platforms - Operator (driver) training - establishes methods for preparing training materials and delivering standardized operator training for MEWPs (mobile elevating work platforms). It applies to MEWPs as defined in ISO 16368 and is intended to be used alongside ISO 18893 for safe use, inspection and maintenance. The standard sets out required training content, familiarization, practical evaluation, record keeping, auditing and administration of MEWP operator programs.

- Retraining and re‑examination: Retraining is required when proficiency deteriorates, after accidents/near-misses, when workplace conditions change, with new technologies, or upon expiration of the training validity (not to exceed five years as an example of a limit given).
- Auditing and verification: Training programs must be audited at least every 12 months (within 13 months) to ensure compliance; employers are responsible for verifying employee training.
