Abstract

Overview

ISO 21404:2020 - "Solid biofuels - Determination of ash melting behaviour" specifies an empirical laboratory method to determine characteristic temperatures that describe the ash melting (fusibility/softening) behaviour of solid biofuels. The method uses ash prepared under controlled ashing conditions, a standardized test piece, controlled heating and atmosphere, and continuous observation to record temperatures at which defined shape changes occur. Results are used to compare tendencies of different biofuel ashes to form deposits or cause bed agglomeration in combustion systems.
