Overview
ISO 22652:2002 - Footwear - Test methods for insoles, lining and insocks - Perspiration resistance specifies a laboratory method to determine the ageing effects of human sweat (perspiration resistance) on insoles, linings and insocks. Developed from EN 12801:2000, the standard defines specimen preparation, an artificial sweat formulation, temperature cycles, measurement points and result expression to quantify dimensional change (shrinkage) and optional mechanical property changes after exposure.

- Apparatus: Oven(s) capable of 35 °C ±1 °C and 40 °C ±1 °C; vernier caliper with 0.1 mm accuracy; flat-bottom containers; small weight to raise liquid level across specimen.
- Test cycle:
- Mark parallel lines 5 mm from each edge and measure four distances (A–B, C–D, E–F, G–H).
- Immerse specimen so solution reaches top edge; hold at 35 °C for 24 h.
- Rinse with distilled water, dry at 40 °C for 24 h.
- Condition 24 h in standard atmosphere.
- Repeat immersion/dry/condition steps five times.
- Results: Measure distances after cycles and calculate linear shrinkage (%) in length and width using the specified formulas; express to 0.5% accuracy. Optional tensile/tear resistance may be measured before and after exposure (expressed in Pa or N/m²).
- Test report must include results, detailed sample ID, sampling method, method reference, deviations and test date.
