Overview
ISO 254:2011 specifies common quality characteristics for transmission pulleys and establishes defined levels for surface finish and balance. It applies to pulleys used with V‑belts, V‑ribbed belts, flat belts and synchronous belts, and includes requirements for test pulleys. - Dynamic balancing (two planes) - may be necessary for wide‑faced rims or pulleys operating at higher speeds.
Residual eccentric mass after static balancing shall not exceed the larger of:
- 0.005 kg, or
- 0.2% of the equivalent mass of the pulley (equivalent mass = mass of a geometrically identical pulley made of cast iron).
When operational speed is known, ISO 254:2011 advises checking the limiting speed to determine if dynamic balancing per ISO 1940‑1 is necessary.
