Overview
ISO 2563:2009 - "Aircraft ducting and piping - Profile dimensions for flanges of V-band couplings" is an international standard that specifies the profile dimensions for V‑band coupling flanges and the associated inch‑based aircraft ducting and piping. Published by ISO and prepared by ISO/TC 20 (Aircraft and space vehicles), SC 10 (Aerospace fluid systems and components), this second edition replaces ISO 2563:1974 and defines standardized external flange profiles used across aerospace ducting systems.
Key topics and requirements
- Flange profile types covered: lightweight solid, medium‑weight solid, heavyweight solid, narrow sheet metal, wide sheet metal, wide solid, and wide sheet metal to solid profiles.
- Dimensional data: Profile dimensions are provided in millimetres with inch equivalents (inch‑based nominal sizes). Tables and figures give tube outside diameters, nominal sizes (DN), and profile dimensions (e.g., Ø A and Ø B) with specified tolerances (tables indicate ±0.25 mm / 0.010 in where applicable).
- Mating pairs and figures: Dimensions for mating flange pairs are detailed in Figures 1–7 and corresponding tables so manufacturers can ensure interchangeability.
- Design flexibility: Joint design is at the user’s discretion provided the design remains within the standardized profile ranges. Flange faces may be asymmetric to permit locating spigots, recesses or other features, while keeping within the overall profile definition.
- Compatibility notes: Narrow and wide sheet metal flanges are identical; the single wide sheet metal profile (Figure 7) is intended to mate with the single solid profile (Figure 6). A single flange end may be machined directly on pumps or valves to mate with ducting.
Applications
- Aerospace ducting and piping manufacturing: Use ISO 2563:2009 to design and produce V‑band coupling flanges that are dimensionally compatible across suppliers and systems.
- Maintenance and repair: Aircraft maintenance organizations and MRO providers use the standard for replacements and repairs of ducting joints and couplings.
- System integrators and OEMs: Ensures interchangeability of components (ducting, valves, pumps) in bleed air, pneumatic and fluid delivery systems.
- Quality and compliance: Useful for procurement specifications, inspection criteria, and drawing standards to reduce mismatch risk in aircraft fluid systems.
Related standards
- Prepared by ISO/TC 20, SC 10 (Aerospace fluid systems and components). For full system compliance, users typically reference other aerospace ducting and piping standards from ISO/TC 20 and relevant industry specifications.
