Overview
ISO 29481-1:2025 - "Building information models - Information delivery manual - Part 1: Methodology and format" defines a standardized methodology and presentation format for Information Delivery Manuals (IDMs). The standard prescribes how to document a use case, its business context, and the exchange requirements needed for information exchanges at identified times during the life cycle of assets (both buildings and infrastructure). Its goal is to promote reliable, repeatable and interoperable information exchange across BIM workflows and software applications.

While IFC and ISO 16739-1 are common implementation formats, ISO 29481-1 allows any information format that satisfies the specified exchange requirements.
