Overview
ISO 3573:2012 specifies requirements for hot-rolled carbon steel sheet of commercial and drawing qualities (HR1–HR4). It covers material dimensions, chemical composition, mechanical properties, manufacturing conditions (descaling, skin pass, oiling, edges), inspection and testing. The standard applies to hot-rolled steel sheet produced in coils or cut lengths and is intended for applications where surface oxide/scale or normal surface imperfections are acceptable - it is not for uses where the surface finish is critical.

- Weldability and fabrication: normally suitable for welding with appropriate procedures; drawing qualities intended for severe forming/drawing.
- Dimensional and shape tolerances: Referenced to ISO 16160.
- Testing, sampling and acceptance:
- Tensile test sampling: one representative sample per lot (lot = ≤ 50 t of same designation/thickness/condition).
- Tensile tests per ISO 6892-1; retest and resubmission rules included.
- Purchaser information: The purchaser should state requirements for descaling, skin pass, edge condition, oiling and whether the sheet is to be produced to make an identified part.
