Overview
ISO 3865:2020 specifies standardized laboratory methods to estimate staining caused by vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber on organic finishes (paints, varnishes, plastics, veneers). The fifth edition defines three test methods - Method A (contact and migration staining), Method B (extraction staining) and Method C (penetration staining) - and provides guidance on sample preparation, apparatus, irradiation and assessment. The standard is intended for reproducible evaluation of rubber-induced staining under heat, light, pressure and in the presence of leached constituents.
