ISO 4696-2:2015 specifies a method to provide a relative measure for evaluating the degree of size degradation of iron ores when reduced with carbon monoxide and nitrogen, under conditions resembling those prevailing in the low-temperature reduction zone of a blast furnace. ISO 4696-2:2015 is applicable to lump ores, sinters and hot-bonded pellets.

ISO 4696-2:2015 - "Iron ores for blast furnace feedstocks - Determination of low-temperature reduction-disintegration indices by static method - Part 2: Reduction with CO and N2" is an ISO laboratory test method that provides a relative measure of the tendency of iron ores to disintegrate under low‑temperature reduction conditions representative of the blast furnace. The standard applies to lump ores, sinters and hot‑bonded pellets and produces the reduction‑disintegration index (RDI) expressed as the mass percentage of material passing a 2.8 mm sieve after controlled reduction and tumbling.
