Overview
ISO 4863:1984 specifies the information that users and manufacturers should exchange about resilient shaft couplings (also called elastic couplings) to ensure clear communication for selection, installation and operation. The standard focuses on data requirements - such as performance, alignment and environmental conditions - rather than dimensional specifications. It does not apply to rigid flange or sleeve couplings, torsionally stiff couplings used solely for alignment (e.g., toothed or diaphragm types), or to slip couplings.

Notes: ISO 4863 recommends including curves or tables showing how coupling stiffness varies with torque, temperature or vibration frequency. It does not provide dimensional requirements for shafts or couplings.
