Overview
ISO 5774:2023 - Plastics hoses - Textile-reinforced types for compressed-air applications - Specification defines minimum requirements for flexible thermoplastic, textile‑reinforced hoses used with compressed air. The standard covers four hose classes (Types A–D), expected operating temperatures (−10 °C to +60 °C), and key performance, dimensional and material criteria to ensure safe, reliable compressed‑air hose assemblies.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope and classification
- Four types by maximum working pressure at 23 °C and 60 °C:
- Type A: 0.7 MPa (7 bar) at 23 °C; 0.45 MPa (4.5 bar) at 60 °C
- Type B: 1.0 MPa (10 bar); 0.65 MPa (6.5 bar) at 60 °C
- Type C: 1.6 MPa (16 bar); 1.1 MPa (11 bar) at 60 °C
- Type D: 2.5 MPa (25 bar); 1.3 MPa (13 bar) at 60 °C
- Materials and construction
- Lining and cover: flexible thermoplastic materials
- Reinforcement: natural or synthetic textile
- Requirements for uniform thickness, concentricity and absence of defects
- Dimensions and tolerances
- Inside diameters, tolerances and minimum wall thicknesses specified (nominal bores from 4 mm upward)
- Concentricity limits based on wall thickness; length tolerances per ISO 1307
- Physical and performance tests
- Tensile strength / elongation: minimum 15 MPa and 250% for lining and cover (ISO 37)
- Ageing resistance: limits on change after heat ageing (ISO 188)
- Hydrostatic testing and proof-pressure criteria (ISO 1402)
- Hydrolysis test for susceptible materials: 95% RH at 80 ± 2 °C for 500 h; post‑test tensile/elongation must remain >40% of original (Annex A)
- Other tests: adhesion, bending, low‑temperature flexibility, resistance to liquids and loss on heating
- Accessories and marking
- Guidance for couplings and end fittings (Annex D; see ISO/TR 17784)
- Marking, packaging, storage and test reporting requirements included
Applications and users
ISO 5774:2023 is primarily for:
- Hose manufacturers and compound formulators specifying textile‑reinforced thermoplastic hoses for compressed‑air systems
- Design and maintenance engineers in manufacturing, construction, mining and workshop environments
- Procurement, quality and testing laboratories verifying compliance with dimensional and performance tests
- Integrators of hose assemblies where safety, traceability and compatibility with couplings/end fittings matter
