Overview
ISO 5892:2024 - "Rubber building gaskets - Materials for preformed solid vulcanized structural gaskets - Specification" defines material and test requirements for preformed, solid vulcanized rubber structural gaskets used to support and seal glazing and other building components. This third edition focuses on material properties, workmanship and test methods for gaskets that both support glass substrates and ensure watertightness and airtightness. - Aging and ozone resistance:
- Accelerated ageing limits for hardness, tensile strength and elongation per ISO 188:2023 (method A).
- Ozone resistance: no cracking after 96 h at 40 °C, 20% strain at (500 ± 50) ppb ozone (ISO 1431‑1).
- Workmanship and dimensions: material must be ozone‑resistant (not reliant on removable surface coatings), free from porosity/defects; dimensional tolerances per ISO 3302‑1.
- Optional requirements: high‑ozone resistance (1 000 ± 100 ppb), holding force, watertightness (ISO 15821), flammability, migration staining, low‑temperature brittleness and lifetime estimation (added in this edition).
