Overview
ISO 6020-1:2007 - "Hydraulic fluid power - Mounting dimensions for single rod cylinders, 16 MPa (160 bar) series - Part 1: Medium series" specifies metric mounting dimensions for medium-series hydraulic single-rod cylinders rated for 16 MPa (160 bar). The standard defines dimensional requirements to ensure interchangeability of commonly used cylinders, covering round-head bores 25 mm–200 mm and both round and square heads for bores above 200 mm (up to 500 mm).
Key topics and requirements
- Pressure rating: 16 MPa (160 bar) series.
- Bore sizes covered: 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, 250, 320, 400, 500 mm.
- Mounting dimensions: Fundamental dimensions and selectable values are given in Figures 1–6 and Tables 1–7 (general dimensions, flange/eye/trunnion and side-lug geometries).
- Mounting types (ISO 6099 identification):
- MF1 - Head, rectangular flange; MF2 - Cap, rectangular flange
- MF3 - Head, circular flange; MF4 - Cap, circular flange
- MP3 - Cap, fixed plain eye; MP4 - Cap, detachable plain eye
- MP5 - Cap, fixed eye with spherical bearing; MP6 - Cap, detachable eye with spherical bearing
- MS2 - Side lugs; MT4 - Intermediate fixed or movable trunnion (male)
- Piston rod characteristics: Specifies shouldered male-thread rod ends (basic dimensions in Table 1); rod end types referenced to ISO 4395.
- Ports and flanges: Port and flange sizes referenced to ISO 1179-1, ISO 6149-1, ISO 6162 and ISO 6164 (see Table 7).
- Tolerances and strokes: Stroke tolerances and several mounting-dimension tolerances are stroke-dependent (see Tables 8 and 9).
- Identification: Recommended identification statement for manufacturers to declare conformance to ISO 6020-1:2007.
Practical applications and users
ISO 6020-1 is used by:
- Hydraulic cylinder designers and OEMs for compliant cylinder dimensions and accessory interfaces.
- System integrators and machine builders for selecting interchangeable cylinders and ensuring correct mounting and porting.
- Procurement and maintenance teams specifying replacements or spares to guarantee fit and function across suppliers.
- Standards and safety engineers assessing compatibility, pressure ratings and flange selection.
Practical benefits:
- Simplifies sourcing and replacement of cylinders across manufacturers.
- Reduces custom mounting design work by providing standard flange, eye and trunnion dimensions.
- Helps avoid installation issues and fluid-power incompatibilities (note: the standard includes a caution about pressure intensification in rod cavities and the need for higher-rated flanges where applicable).
