Overview
ISO 7363:1986 - "Cranes and lifting appliances - Technical characteristics and acceptance documents" defines the form, presentation and minimum content of the technical and acceptance documents that a manufacturer should supply with cranes and lifting appliances. The standard aims to ensure consistent, practical information for installation, testing, commissioning and safe use. Specimen acceptance documents are provided in the annex. The standard applies to all types defined in ISO 4306‑1.
Key topics and requirements
- Document scope and presentation
- Documents must be compiled in the national language of the equipment’s country of use (or as agreed).
- Preferred paper formats (A4 and larger sizes) and layout guidance for tables and charts are specified.
- General data (Annex A.1)
- Manufacturer and vendor identification, serial number, year of manufacture, equipment type and function, power source and operating environment (temperature, wind, corrosive or explosive atmospheres).
- Technical characteristics of equipment (Annex A.2)
- Core parameters: maximum lifting capacity, load moment, radius, lifting height/depth, boom/span dimensions, mass and mass distribution, wheel/outrigger loads, ground pressure (crawler cranes).
- Performance data: load and height rating tables or charts, maximum lifting capacity under travel, hook block characteristics, speeds (lifting/ lowering, slewing, travel, boom extension), gradeability and slew limits.
- Assembly units and systems (Annex A.3)
- Engine and motor ratings, hydraulic/electric system data, schematic diagrams (electric, hydraulic, pneumatic), gear ratios and brake characteristics, reeving and rope specifications.
- Acceptance and delivery documents (Annex A.4–A.5)
- Specimen acceptance documents to record test results, technical data in as‑supplied condition, and signatures of a competent person witnessing final tests.
- Warnings and user responsibilities
- Documents shall be available to owners/operators/inspectors; owners/users must have equipment examined and tested by a competent person before use.
