Has been prepared in accordance with the environmental protection aspects of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki, 1975) and is also in conformity with the "International convention for the prevention of pollution from ships", 1973 (MARPOL, 1973).

Abstract

Overview

ISO 7608:1985 - "Shipbuilding - Inland navigation - Couplings for disposal of oily mixture and sewage water" specifies types, design, basic dimensions and technical requirements for couplings used to transfer oily mixtures and sewage from shipboard storage to shore or collecting vessels. Prepared in line with environmental provisions of the Helsinki Final Act (1975) and the MARPOL 1973 convention, the standard helps ensure leak‑proof, safe and interoperable connections for inland navigation vessels.

- Two fluid groups: Group A (oily mixture) and Group B (sewage water).
- Four design types: Type 1 - flange couplings, Type 2 - quick‑release couplings (bush + end‑piece with union nut), Type 3 - flange/end‑piece adapters, Type 4 - flange/bush adapters.
- River/sea vessels are required to use a fixed Type 1 flange coupling.
