Overview
ISO 7787-3:2017 specifies dimensional and performance requirements for the most commonly used carbide laboratory cutters for milling machines in the dental laboratory. The standard ensures interchangeability and consistent quality of tungsten carbide cutters used for milling dental prosthetic parts. It excludes cutters intended for CAD/CAM systems and does not cover additional cutter characteristics such as spiralled blades or cross-cut geometry.

- Measurement methods: Dimensional and run-out measurements must follow ISO 8325 and use validated measuring devices; manufacturers are responsible for instrument accuracy validation.
- Designation and marking: Designation code numbers follow ISO 2157. Marking must show the manufacturer’s trade name/mark and the nominal size.
