Overview
ISO 8148:1985 specifies fixed-type derrick boom headfittings used in shipbuilding and marine structures for cargo handling. The standard defines dimensions, materials, fabrication, heat treatment, tolerances and marking for headfittings fitted at the hoisting (hissage) and topping (apiquage) ends of derrick booms. An informative annex gives guidance on positioning and mounting, including reference to the guy eyeplate (eyeplate per ISO 8146).

- Tolerances: Specific tolerancing rules apply (e.g., foundational IT tolerance for some critical dimensions per ISO/R 286 and percentage-based allowances for others).
- Marking:
- Headfittings must be indelibly and legibly marked on both hoisting and topping sides with their respective nominal sizes
- Marking must be sited outside high-stress zones
- Punch sizes specified (e.g., 5 mm for nominal 2/2.5; 6.3 mm for nominal sizes 3–63)
