Overview
ISO 8496:2013 specifies a standardized ring tensile test method for metallic tubes to reveal surface and internal defects and to assess ductility. The test subjects a short ring cut from the tube to circumferential strain until fracture occurs. ISO 8496:2013 is the third edition (revising the 1998 edition) and is maintained by ISO/TC 164 (Mechanical testing of metals), Subcommittee SC 2 (Ductility testing).

- Interpretation follows the applicable product standard; if none is specified, the ring passes if expected fracture behavior is observed and no other cracks are visible without magnification.
