ISO 9016:2022 - "Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials - Impact tests - Test specimen location, notch orientation and examination" - standardizes how to describe and report Charpy impact test specimen location and notch orientation for welded butt joints. Intended as a supplement to the ISO 148 series, ISO 9016:2022 applies to impact tests on metallic materials made by any fusion or pressure welding process and in all product forms. Method of denomination (labeling)

- 3rd character: S (notched face parallel to surface - “surface notch”) or T (notch through thickness).

- Where denomination alone is insufficient, a sketch referencing the weld procedure should be provided.

- Notch position may be confirmed by macroetching in addition to geometric description.
