Overview
ISO/IEC 7498-1:1994 - "Information technology - Open Systems Interconnection - Basic Reference Model: The Basic Model" (also published as ITU‑T Rec. X.200) defines the conceptual OSI Reference Model used to coordinate standards for system interconnection. This second edition (1994, corrected/reprinted 1996) replaces the 1984 edition and introduces refinements such as explicit treatment of connectionless transmission. The standard provides a common, technology‑neutral framework - a layered architecture - to place existing and future communications standards in perspective.
