Overview
ISO/TR 16323:2003 - Textiles - Three-dimensional measuring apparatus for fabric appearance - specifies objective test methods for evaluating seam appearance (seam pucker) using three-dimensional measuring apparatus. The Technical Report presents two instrumented approaches (annexed as Method 1 and Method 2) intended to supplement traditional visual grading (AATCC 1–5 pucker scale) with reproducible, quantitative 3D measurements.

- Method 2 (Laser scanning + neurofuzzy analysis): Non-contact displacement meter (spot or line laser + CCD) scans the seam surface to generate high-resolution height data (instrument specification in clause 5.3.1.1: 4 352 measurement points per sample - 17 lines at 2.5 mm intervals × 256 points at 1 mm intervals). Software fuzzifies height/frequency features and uses multiple neurofuzzy engines to output objective ratings mapped to AATCC grades.

- Prepare three specimens with a central seam (Method 1: 38 cm × 38 cm; Method 2: 50 mm × 500 mm).
- Wash/dry cycles per ISO 6330 (repeat up to five cycles if required).
