Overview
ISO/TS 19911:2010 - Plastics pipes and fittings: Format of a technical file for characterizing PE spigot end fittings - defines the information a manufacturer must include in a technical file to characterize polyethylene (PE) spigot end fittings intended for butt fusion or electrofusion assembly. The Technical Specification is intended to support type testing, third‑party approval and traceability of fittings used in fluid transport systems.

The Technical Specification describes the individual elements of a technical file and specifies what the manufacturer should provide:
- Identification of the fitting (Table 1): manufacturer name, trade mark, fitting type (tee, elbow, reducer, etc.), application (e.g., water, gas), identification coding, nominal diameters and SDR, and compliance with any product standard.
- PE compound characteristics (Table 2): trade mark, classification per ISO 12162 (e.g., PE100), compound code per ISO 12176‑4, melt mass‑flow rate MFR (per ISO 1133) including test temperature/load and tolerances, and compound colour.
- Geometrical characteristics: all relevant dimensions in millimetres for the fusion end-piece and body (symbols D, E, L and ovality are specified in the text and Figure 1). The file should include the dimensions used in Table 3 and note that values conform to the relevant product standard.
- Dimensions and tolerances: manufacturers must provide nominal, minimum and maximum values where applicable; face thickness reductions from chamfering or reversion must be included.
- Fusion parameters: optionally, a butt fusion procedure may be provided by the manufacturer to assist in correct assembly.
- Revision control: any modification to a fitting is to be reflected in a revised technical file; revisions may trigger further testing or approval.
