Overview
EN ISO 5771:2024 (identical to ISO 5771:2024) is the European/CEN specification for rubber hoses and hose assemblies used to transfer anhydrous ammonia. It sets minimum performance, dimensional and testing requirements for hoses intended for liquid or gaseous ammonia service at ambient temperatures from −40 °C to +55 °C and a working pressure of 2,5 MPa (25 bar). The standard addresses hose performance and assemblies but does not specify end fittings. This edition (April 2024) supersedes EN ISO 5771:2008.
Key Topics
- Scope & limitations
- Hoses for anhydrous ammonia only; excludes end fittings.
- Operational temperature range: −40 °C to +55 °C.
- Nominal working pressure: 25 bar (2,5 MPa); proof pressure: 63 bar (6,3 MPa).
- Materials and construction
- Requirements for lining, reinforcement and cover compounds suitable for ammonia service.
- Guidance for hose assemblies and acceptable construction practices.
- Dimensions & tolerances
- Inside and outside diameter limits, concentricity and cut-to-length tolerances.
- Physical and performance tests
- Rubber compound tests, finished hose testing and ammonia resistance conditioning procedures.
- Flexing, burst-pressure and other post-conditioning tests.
- Quality control
- Type, routine and frequency of tests; delivery and in‑use (annual) test requirements.
- Marking, packaging, storage and test-certificate requirements.
- Annexes
- Type/routine test frequency and recommendations for supplied lengths.
Applications
EN ISO 5771:2024 is intended for:
- Manufacturers of ammonia-resistant rubber hoses and hose assemblies.
- Quality assurance and testing laboratories performing hydrostatic, burst and conditioning tests.
- Plant engineers, procurement and maintenance teams in industries using anhydrous ammonia:
- Refrigeration and cold‑storage systems
- Fertiliser application and agricultural ammonia distribution
- Chemical processing and industrial gas handling
- Safety and compliance officers who need to verify hose performance for ammonia transfer and retain test certificates.
