Overview
ISO 10619-3:2011 - published by ISO - defines a standardized laboratory method for measuring the bending characteristics (flexibility and stiffness) of rubber and plastics hoses and tubing at low and high temperatures. The method covers tests between −60 °C and +200 °C and is intended for small-bore hoses and tubing (internal diameter up to 12.5 mm). Primary outputs include the force required to bend specimens and dimensional changes expressed as the T/D ratio (minimum bent diameter T over unbent outer diameter D).

- Install two matched specimens per series; perform typically three series (each series = two specimens).
- Measure unbent outer diameter D (three readings averaged) and measure the minimum outer diameter T at the bent region (six readings averaged).
- Apply bending force, determine force to reach the specified minimum curvature (twice the minimum radius), divide recorded force by two to obtain single-specimen bending force.
- Results and reporting
- Calculate T/D and compare with allowable deformation specified for the hose.
- Test report must reference ISO 10619-3:2011 and include method details, specimen description, temperature, observations, D, T, T/D, bending force (if applicable), and test date.
