Overview
ISO 16978:2003 specifies a standardized method for determining the apparent modulus of elasticity (in bending) and the bending strength of wood-based panels using a flatwise bending test. The procedure uses a simply supported specimen with a central line load; the elastic modulus is derived from the slope of the linear portion of the load–deflection curve and bending strength from the rupture load and bending moment. The method is intended to provide reproducible, comparable results for laboratory testing, quality control and structural assessment of panel products.
