Overview
EN ISO 5774:2023 - “Plastics hoses - Textile-reinforced types for compressed-air applications - Specification” (ISO 5774:2023), adopted by CEN, defines minimum performance, construction and testing requirements for textile‑reinforced thermoplastic hoses used with compressed air. Applicable temperature range: −10 °C to +60 °C. This fifth edition supersedes EN ISO 5774:2016 and is intended to ensure reliable, safe hose performance across industrial, heavy‑duty and mining compressed‑air applications.
Key Topics and Requirements
- Scope & Classification
- Covers four hose types by maximum working pressure at specified temperatures:
- Type A - light service: 0.7 MPa (7 bar) at 23 °C; 0.45 MPa (4.5 bar) at 60 °C
- Type B - medium service: 1.0 MPa (10 bar) at 23 °C; 0.65 MPa (6.5 bar) at 60 °C
- Type C - heavy service: 1.6 MPa (16 bar) at 23 °C; 1.1 MPa (11 bar) at 60 °C
- Type D - heavy/mining/outdoor: 2.5 MPa (25 bar) at 23 °C; 1.3 MPa (13 bar) at 60 °C
- Note: hoses are not intended for oil transport, though compressor air may contain oil in suspension.
- Materials & Construction
- Requirements for lining, cover and textile reinforcement materials; some compounds require a hydrolysis test (Annex A).
- Dimensions & Tolerances
- Inside diameter, minimum wall thickness, concentricity and cut‑to‑length tolerances (referencing ISO 1307, ISO 4671).
- Physical & Performance Tests
- Tensile strength, elongation, accelerated ageing, loss in mass on heating, resistance to liquids and hydrolysis.
- Finished‑hose tests: hydrostatic testing, adhesion, xenon arc lamp exposure (UV/weathering), bending tests and low‑temperature flexibility.
- Quality & Traceability
- Frequency of testing, marking, packaging/storage recommendations, and required test report content.
Applications
- Pneumatic supply lines, workshop air hoses, plant compressed‑air distribution, pneumatic tool hoses, and heavy‑duty/mining air lines.
- Useful where durable, flexible thermoplastic hoses with textile reinforcement are required and where standardized pressure/temperature performance and test evidence are needed.
Who Uses This Standard
- Hose manufacturers and product designers
- Test laboratories and quality assurance teams
- Purchasing/specification engineers and consultants
- Maintenance and safety engineers in industrial and mining sectors
- Regulators and conformity assessment bodies
